Ray Masters Plays with Brazilian Girls, On Canvas!

Painting Brazilian Girls

Maui’s bad boy artist, Ray Masters brought the Brazilian girls line up to a temporary five members last month as he joined the band on stage for the final show of their 2005 Maui Tour at Hapa’s Nightclub in Kehei.

While the Brazilian Girls rocked the house with their infectious and sexy brand of dance music, Masters treated the audience to a unique visual experience as he painted a large 4 foot by 5 foot canvas depicting the band, using his signature colorful and humorous style.

The painting was completed just as the ‘Girls were finishing their final set.  “I usually take between two to six weeks to complete a large canvas.  I had two hours tonight!” said an exhausted but smiling Masters.  “The challenge of the time constraint demanded a level of focus and commitment that I usually am not required to make. In the studio I always have the opportunity to change something, step back and consider things.”

Not so this night as Masters barely had time to let underlying layers of paint dry before rushing on to the next.  In fact he did not even step back from the work until the very end, at which time it was too late for any changes.  So did he and the Brazilian girls like what they saw?

“Yeah, beautifull painting and great meeting Ray” Didi Gutman said.

“We had an amazing time there.
Ray and his friends are the S**T, and we can’t wait to come back and do it again…but more and better:)” said drummer Aaron Johnston.

“I really am very happy with it.  Aside from all other considerations it is a really good Ray Masters. But now add all of the other ingredients and it makes for one of my most memorable and enjoyable works.”
